I was lucky to study with Win Horan, of the Irish group Solas (http://www.solasmusic.com/) this semester. We will be presenting a variety of tunes we learned. I'll sing a tune, and dance some jigs.
The Contemporary Improvisation department will be taking over the Armory! Undergraduates and graduates alike will perform some individual projects and tunes. It should be an eclectic mix of repertoire, spanning genres and improvisational approaches. Oh, and there's a bar.

This fall, I've been participating in the aMaSSiT choreography residency at the Dance Complex, under the direction of Peter DiMuro. It is the first time I have "set" a piece, rather than purely improvise, and the first time I have been in a community of dancers that haven't been tappers. This showcase features the dance I have been working on, along with those of five other residents. It should be a great weekend of movement, music, and insight into the creative process.

The Contemporary Improvisation Department at NEC is putting on a fall concert in tribute to Ran Blake, one of the founders of the department, and a brilliant musician. I'm lucky enough to have had the opportunity to create a vocal quartet arrangement of Ran Blake's version of I Loves You Porgy, as heard on his album, Driftwoods. I'll be performing with Burcu Gulec, Caroline Kuhn, and Katie Martucci. In Jordan Hall!
I'll be singing a solo and two duets (with the illustrious Davey Harrison) at this yiddish festival, hosted by the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee! Trek on down to the great state of Wisconsin--you know it's worth it!

On this sunday afternoon, I'll be experimenting with boundaries between performer and audience. I'll be playing with the brilliant Jacob Hiser on piano. We will present a combination of repertoire, free improvisation, and experimentations within interdisciplinary arts, especially utilizing visual art.
I'll ask audience members to come up and sketch charts that myself and Jacob Hiser (piano) then improvise. We'll experiment with fluidity of genre, from opera, jazz, tap dance, free improvisation, and movement, asking audience members to direct where I go, and when. Each table will represent a different genre.
This will mark the beginning of my embarkment into the world of interdisciplinary arts. I'd love for you to be there and be part of it.

Learn how to tap dance like a percussionist. Study jazz, call and response, phrasing, scatting, improvising, how to connect feet and voice, and how to construct solos. Lots of individual feedback.
If you have any tap experience at all, you can improvise- this is about taking what you know and learning how to convey it through improvisation in the jazz world!
